El tercera línea sudafricano Schalk Burger fue elegido en Londres ‘Jugador del Año’ por la International Board.
Mientras que los ‘Springboks’ y su seleccionador, Jack White, fueron nombrados respectivamente ‘Mejor Equipo’ y ‘Mejor Entrenador del año 2004’.
Burger, de 21 años, fue ya elegido ‘Jugador del Año’ a principios de noviembre en su país. Su equipo nacional fue igualmente recompensada por la IRB en una ceremonia en el hotel Royal Lancaster de la capital inglesa.
Los ‘Springboks’ se adjudicaron este año el triunfo en el Tri-Nations, el torneo en el que participan las tres mejores naciones del hemisferio sur (con Australia y Nueva Zelanda).
El seleccionador de Sudáfrica, Jack White, designado también ‘Entrenador del Año’, completó el ‘triplete’ de su país. La elección de White, nombrado seleccionador tras el fracaso del Mundial 2003, por la IRB confirma el regreso de Sudáfrica al máximo nivel.
